“I believe that learning language involves learning about culture and
history; even in a beginning language course, innumerable cultural
details are important for basic comprehension.  At all levels of
language instruction, I like to incorporate film and literary and
historical texts that improve language skills as they give students
some knowledge of the places where French is spoken.
I’m therefore particularly excited to teach French in Maine, where
the Franco-American presence and proximity to Quebec makes it
easier for
students to explore language and culture beyond the classroom."
"I divide my time between Waterville and Paris.  I encourage any
students planning a trip to France to let me know!  It’s very fulfilling
for me to see current and former students in France, not just because
they’re using and improving their French, but because they’re
exploring new places and learning about different perspectives on the
world."
